Press Officers share lessons learned on EU EOMs communications and visibility

The Election Observation and Democracy Support project (EODS) organised a two-day workshop for Press Officers (POs) in European Union Election Observation Missions (EU EOMs) that took place on 18 and 19 November 2025. The event gathered seven communication experts with experience in EU EOMs deployed over the last two years, 2024 – 2025. Five experts in Brussels were joined online by two colleagues currently on mission.

The discussion, led by the EODS Communications Coordinator Cláudia Aranda, was focused on lessons learned and good practices establishing effective communications strategies to provide visibility to the EOMs. The event offered the opportunity for EODS and POs to present the main progress achieved in ensuring a consistent and standardised approach to communications and visibility across the EOMs and to discuss ways to move forward.

Representatives of the European External Action Service (EEAS) and the European Commission’s Service for Foreign Policy Instruments (FPI) took part in the event, contributing for a dynamic and fruitful brainstorming. EEAS representatives working on Global Communications and Public Diplomacy. Information Integrity and Countering Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI) and Sub-Saharan Africa Task Force also participated contributing with updates on the EU approach to communications, tackling disinformation strategies and FIMI dynamics in elections.
