This EODS training aimed at providing election observation practitioners with tools and knowledge to participate in French speaking EU EOM core teams as legal election analysts. The training was delivered in French and focused on developing participants’ skills on international and regional legal instruments relevant to EOMs, different EU EOM reports and assessment of mission findings. During the five days course, participants were introduced to topics relevant to the work of a legal analyst in an EU election observation mission, with a special emphasis on roles and responsibilities, international obligation, commitments and good practice related to elections, international public law, electoral disputes resolution, recommendations and interpersonal skills.
The training was held in Brussels between 4 and 8 May 2015 and combined presentations, discussions and case studies. In addition to these, there were written exercises aiming at developing participants’ reporting skills. Participants received a feedback on these exercises and on their overall performance.
In the framework of the EU cooperation on election observation issues with regional organisations, the training was also attended by a representative of the Electoral Affairs Department of the League of Arab States.
