EODS organized a training to data analysts in EU EOM aimed at providing election practitioners with tools and knowledge to participate in EU EOM Core Teams.
During the course, participants were introduced to topics relevant to the work of a data analyst in an EU election observation mission, with a special emphasis on international obligations, commitments and good practice related to elections. As particular requirements for this position, participants learnt about techniques to mitigate sample bias on election observation, observation data management and analysis, as well as how to investigate election results. The training focused on the extraction of qualitative and quantitative information from the data compiled by the observers. The participants had a special session on reporting, to insert the findings of the analysis in the Preliminary Statement and in the Final Report.
The training combined presentations, discussions and case studies. In addition to this, there were reporting exercises aiming at developing participants’ skills in line with EU EOM reporting requirements.
