The two-day EODS web-event on the methodology for observing online election-related content started today. Over forty experts in election observation, media and electoral campaign analysis, IT experts as well the representatives of the European External Action Service, the European Commission’s Service for Foreign Policy Instruments and the European Parliament took part in the event. The participants commented on the draft EODS guidelines for observing election campaigns on the internet and in social networks, particularly on: 1) international standards and terminology, 2) general methodological framework, and 3) operational considerations for implementing this methodology in EU election observation missions. The web-event will be continued tomorrow morning with the sessions devoted to social media monitoring tools and to formulating sustainable recommendations by EU EOMs.
