BiRD is an independent and privately owned consulting firm providing first-class consulting and project management services in the field of development cooperation founded in 1998. Its primary fields of activity cover key aspects of democratic governance and institutional strengthening in developing and transition countries. Working for bi- and multilateral donors such as the European Union, World Bank, GIZ, DFID, BTC, CIDA or ADA, the firm has implemented projects in many parts of the world, with specific focus on Sub-Saharan Africa. BiRD co-operates with a wide circle of European and international experts and with a large number of national consultants in various project countries. Being among the first companies to explicitly specialise in the increasingly important governance sector, BiRD has gradually moved from short-term missions to managing larger-scale technical assistance projects.
